Default Best energy stealimg mesmer spells?

Ive decided to use these skills on my air ele.

Chain lightning
Lightning orb
Lightning strike
Lightning Surge
Air attunement

Now I was wondering what mesmer skills would be the best to fill up those last three slots? This will be to get some energy back after casting my offensive spells.

Drain Enchantment (Inspiration) is always nice, and it can often remove a prot spirit on the enemy caster.

Enery Tap is ok too. If you can spare the elite slot, Energy Drain is nice as well... keeps my domination mesmer in the fight almost indefinately.

But the ele elites-Ether Prodigy especially-are far better than the mesmer inspiration line. It's up to you if you want to use Surge, though.

Bring elemental attunement, drain enchant, and maybe power drain (very nice if theres a slow ele on the other team. Just ditch the surge for enervating or something to use while everything else is recharging, with ele attunement, e-management just got easier.

Very risky to use, since the healers will have to heal the damage you do to yourself.
Not worth it I say, unless you are going E/Mo for healer or protector.

I will sometimes use leach signet for interupts and energy. Its not the best but I like it.

The real problem with Prodigy is the tactic you have to use to make it work without causing large damage. It's not designed to fill you up, it's designed to be run almost constantly with minimal energy, keeping you from ever hitting rock bottom. However, if it gets stripped, you are stuck for a while.

And no, there is no way to prevent the damage. I've tried RoF on my Prot El/Mo, and that didn't even do it.

How's that? It has a fast recharge and minimal energy cost. If it gets stripped, just put it back up. More of a problem, IME, is a luckily-timed backfire/blackout/etc. - Prodigy ending after some time spent not casting can be quite painful.

To answer the original question, it depends on where you're taking the build, but Drain Enchantment and Power Drain would top my list for most situations.

For my air ele I use dual attunes and put the rest into domination Magic and use Shatter Enchantment. With both Attunements running you won't get energy problems, although you may want to try and slot a cover enchant in there, if they both get stripped you can hit rock bottom real fast...
